My brother, Sam, is a specialist in the Army and has been serving in Afghanistan since last March. In their Christmas letter, my sister-in-law, Shannon (Sam's woman) writes:
"This half of deployment has proven much harder than the first. Sam has had a rough time. He has been moved around constantly and had to adjust to all types of situations. From being able to call home everyday and having a semi-normal work schedule to being way out in the middle of nowhere, pretty much living out of tents with no communication to the States. He has not been able to receive any mail for the past three months due to his constant travelling and back-up with the mail carriers, so it has been a lonely half, especially for Sam. Currently, Sam is stationed in Laghman, Afghanistan and he should be there for the rest of his tour. This is a much more dangerous area. He has already been ambushed during one of his missions and he has only been there for two weeks. The environment there is much more hostile than his former location in Sharana. However, God's provision always shines through. Sam lost his 1st Sergeant in the earlier parts of the deployment and several friends have had severe to minor injuries, but God has kept my husband safe. We ask you to continue to lift him up in your prayers along with our troops. We thank you all for your support, love, and prayers that I know the Lord has heard and answered. Sam is set to leave Afghanistan March 5th, 2007."
We received great news this past Sunday that Sam is beginning to get his mail (finally) and I'd like to give you his new address. I'm sure he'd appreciate the cards, letters and care packages!
